Whenever I try to draw an anime (or manga) character, I have difficulty because I don't draw in that style, nor am I predisposed to think in that style.
For me, the artwork is chiefly in the face. I like drawing people's faces. Not actual people, mind you.
And one thing I like is really making a picture FEEL like a certain character and seem unique amongst the other characters I draw. I try very hard to make sure that I don't fall into the trap of just drawing the same face with a different hairstyle. In order to do that, the face needs to have a number of characteristics one can play with, such as nose, eyes, mouth, jaw, cheek, hair, etc.
Hence the problem with anime. The style has very, very minimalistic faces. Not that's there's anything wrong with that. In fact, it's a great thing. People 'fill in the gaps' and identify with the characters a great deal. There's a reason the style is so amazingly popular - it's because it's awesome.
But it's very hard to draw an anime character uniquely. You have to rely on body language and situation and things like that. You need to understand the character.
I know nothing about Kiva, so this was fucking hard to do.
In the end, this isn't technically very good, but it's got some fun kinetic energy to it, which to my knowledge, is very much what MegasXLR was all about.
i have the opposite problem: it's hard to me draw in a like-american style like yours or DCM' Satin Steele...and i like your faces very much... I HATE YOU!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
