This was a bonus sketch for Kid Komix. He paid me in advance for the Mary Jane commission and it took me years before I ever talked to him again. I knew he liked Red Sonja, so I did this as a sort of apology.
I kinda like her solemnity. Red Sonja is always drawn so angry or sexy, I kinda liked just drawing her a little lost. Sadly, her chainmail is rubbish.
I love the vibe of this piece. Really beautiful. The chainmail? It might have looked better if you have put in the extra hour (you lazy bum!), but it looks decent enough.

I'm a Serenity fan, too, and I think I know the pic you speak of. Still, please don't crush my dreams by saying the model of this was a dude. Dreams are fragile, you know.
No no. I looked at AH reference on the Sonja costume (more to see what she wears as opposed to how he drew it) and the Mal portrait is a little sketch he did. It's Mal, looking the other way. The emotion of it is what I referenced. The Mal had no body, just his head. So calm down, you're not gay.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

I used a portrait sketch he did of Malcolm Reynolds.
I kid you not. That was all I used.
